Commander Bio

Arleigh Burke (1901–1996) was an admiral of the U.S. Navy and Chief of Naval Operations (1955–1961), and one of the key figures in U.S. naval history of the 20th century. Known as "31-knot Burke" for his aggressive destroyer tactics in World War II, he commanded Destroyer Squadron 23 and later served three terms as Chief of Naval Operations — the only officer ever to do so.
